Immediate financing for flood aftermath: IMF to provide $450 million : ISLAMABAD (September 03, 2010): Inter-national Monetary Fund (IMF) would provide around US$450 million in immediate emergency financing to Pakistan to help the country manage the aftermath of the massive and devastating floods that wrecked havoc in the country.
Removal of RPPs contractual inconsistencies: Cabinet directives put on hold : ISLAMABAD (September 03, 2010): The directives by the Cabinet to remove contractual inconsistencies for the multi billion dollar Rental Power Projects (RPPs), as noted by third party audit, has been put on hold by an office memorandum (OM) signed by a Section Officer of the Cabinet Division.
Appointment of broker as chairman: General body meeting to amend KSE Article of Association : KARACHI (September 03, 2010): The members of Karachi Stock Exchange on Thursday decided that general body meeting will be called to amend KSE Article of Association to appoint broker as a chairman of the exchange. In an emergent meeting held at KSE here on Thursday, the members decided that the 2005 decision of appointment of a non-member chairman would be reverted and KSE Article of Association would be amended to appoint a real stakeholder of capital market as the chairman of KSE.
Butt, Asif, Aamer withdrawn from tour : TAUNTON (September 03, 2010): The three cricketers accused of involvement in an illegal betting scam insisted on their innocence Thursday as they formally withdrew from the scandal-tainted tour of England. Test captain Salman Butt and bowlers Mohammad Aamer and Mohammad Asif vowed to clear their names in a meeting in London with Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Ijaz Butt and Wajid Shamsul Hasan, Pakistan's ambassador to Britain.
National Assembly session begins with no word on floods : ISLAMABAD (September 03, 2010): Although, the treasury as well as Opposition members of the National Assembly spent two hours, they were not able to take a decision on the list of items to be made part of the agenda for the session. They did not even utter a single word on the devastation that the floods have caused across the country. They also could not decide in two hours on the number of days or duration of this session.
Need to ensure 'Balochistan not forgotten': flood-hit Pakistanis, Afghans may cross into Iran: UNHCR : ISLAMABAD (September 03, 2010): Dismal conditions in flood-hit areas in Balochistan could force thousands of Pakistanis and Afghan refugees to cross the border into Iran, the UN refugee agency warned on Thursday. Balochistan province was the first to be hit by the country's worst floods, initially displaced some 200,000 people. But the region has been largely ignored after more menacing waters raged in other parts of Pakistan.
China says reports of troops in Pakistan wrong : BEIJING (September 03, 2010): China on Thursday dismissed reports saying troops of the People's Liberation Army are in Gilgit-Baltistan. The International Herald Tribune, the global edition of The New York Times, ran an opinion piece last week that said up to 11,000 soldiers of the People's Liberation Army were in Gilgit.
US sorry over 'mistreatment' of military team : ISLAMABAD (September 03, 2010): The United States has apologised to Pakistan over "mistreatment" of a Pakistani military delegation at a US airport this week, the Pakistani defence ministry said Friday. US under-secretary of state for defence Michelle Flournoy apologised during a telephone call to Pakistan's top defence ministry official, Syed Athar Ali, the ministry said in a statement.
